Join the Division of Legislative Audit in Anchorage, Alaska.

General Description
The division conducts performance audits of state departments and programs, improving accountability through the evaluation of economy, efficiency, and effectiveness. Audits include sunset audits, special audits, and information technology audits. The entry‑level staff auditor learns basic audit skills and performs tasks under the direction of supervisory auditors. The role offers growth opportunities for auditors who demonstrate excellent skills.

Examples of Duties

Perform auditing procedures and techniques in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (Yellow Book).

Prepare workpapers that document the audit procedures.

Research laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements to determine compliance.

Follow audit procedures to accurately identify errors and summarize findings.

Interview State agency personnel regarding operations and document interviews.

Obtain audit documentation from State agency personnel.

Develop audit procedures and assist in writing audit reports as experience permits.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Obtain knowledge of Government Auditing Standards.

Evaluate business processes, identify risks, and recommend controls.

Read, comprehend, and analyze information.

Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Research and interpret federal and state laws, rules, and regulations.

Implement government auditing pronouncements.

Maintain confidential information.

Work effectively in a team and foster a positive work environment.

Work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Lift up to 40 pounds.

Possess a valid driver's license.

Work full‑time (37.5 hours per week) from the Anchorage office.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Fully exempt job class under Alaska Statute 39.25.110(3).

Positions require political neutrality.

Class range and title depend on experience and qualifications.

No visa employer sponsorship is provided.

Minimum Qualifications
(1) A bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, economics, public administration, government, political science, data analytics, data science, mathematics, statistics, journalism, English (writing focus), humanities, social science, information systems, or a related field.

OR

(2) At least four years of experience as an auditor, management consultant, or an operations, budget, or policy analyst, or related experience.

OR

(3) An associate’s degree in business, economics, government, political science, mathematics, statistics, journalism, English (writing focus), social science, or a related field and at least two years of experience as an auditor, management consultant, or an operations, budget, or policy analyst, or related experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience conducting performance audits under Government Auditing Standards.

A minimum GPA of 3.25 from an accredited university or college.

A Master’s degree from an accredited university or college.

Certified Information Systems Auditor certification.

At least three months experience as an employee or volunteer with a local, state, tribal, or federal government agency.
