About the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Our department leads psychiatry education for Dell Medical School and its post‑graduate programs train mental health professionals to become 21st‑century leaders in the fields of psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide evidence‑based care for individuals and families in multiple general medical and specialty behavioral health settings with an active and strong presence in community settings. The Department leads cutting‑edge basic and clinical research that illuminates the underlying neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments.
About the Outpatient Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist Position
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, in conjunction with Seton Family of Doctors (SFOD) and Ascension Seton, is seeking a board‑certified or board‑eligible Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join our clinical faculty and serve on our outpatient clinical team in Austin, Texas. Candidates will help our Department achieve its goal of working with community partners to develop clinical, educational and research initiatives that revolutionize mental health care in Central Texas and beyond. Student loan forgiveness is available for faculty through the Texas Mental Health Professionals Loan Repayment Program.
Candidates are expected to provide exemplary care that restores hope and helps patients live healthier lives. Clinical assignments will occur through collaborations with Seton Healthcare Family, providing care in various outpatient settings as part of a multidisciplinary team. Primary responsibilities include evaluating and treating a broad spectrum of mental health challenges in pediatric subspecialty clinics, providing integrated psychiatric care, and contributing to the Community Psychiatry Workforce Expansion (CPWE) program, which expands access to pediatric mental health services across Texas. The psychiatrist will also provide on‑call coverage on the Mental Health Unit and in the hospital and will participate in educational activities with medical students and residents. Opportunities exist for collaboration on innovative clinical programming and research initiatives.
Essential Functions
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist demonstrates comprehensive knowledge in child and adolescent psychiatry, including developmental aspects of treatment and assessment, effective communication during clinical interviews, interpretation of age‑specific responses, and psychosocial systems impact. The psychiatrist manages medication, performs psychiatric emergency evaluations, crisis intervention, and prescribes medications while accounting for comorbid conditions. Lab work is ordered, reviewed, and treatment adjustments are made based on results. Documentation is prompt, licensure and certifications are maintained, and professional standards, billing practices, and productivity expectations are met. The psychiatrist participates in treatment team meetings, peer reviews, and quality management activities. For the CPAN program, the psychiatrist provides consultations to primary care providers and offers telehealth evaluations for mental health management in primary care settings.

Qualifications
Required:
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in Texas, or the ability to obtain one prior to appointment.
Board‑certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, or board‑eligible with a commitment to obtain certification within two years.
Eligible for credentialing and privileging by Ascension Seton.
Eligible for credentialing and privileging in the local mental health authority.
Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher in the Department.
Demonstrated leadership, clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
