About the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences: The department leads psychiatry education for the Dell Medical School and its post‑graduated programs training mental health professionals to become 21st‑century leaders in psychiatry and psychology. Clinical services provide evidence‑based care for individuals and families in multiple settings with a strong presence in community settings. The department is also leading cutting‑edge research that illuminates the neurobiological causes of psychiatric disorders and identifies novel treatments.
Position: The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences seeks a board certified/board eligible Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join the clinical faculty and serve on community and school‑based telemedicine programs and the consultation‑liaison clinical team in Austin, Texas. The physician will support clinical, educational and research initiatives, provide clinical and consultative care as part of the Child and Perinatal Psychiatric Access Network (CPAN and PeriPAN), the Texas Child Health Access through Telemedicine (TCHATT), the school‑based telehealth program, and Child Psychiatry Workforce Expansion (CWPE) projects.
Primary responsibilities include providing clinical expertise to evaluate and treat a broad spectrum of mental health challenges for children and adolescents, supporting physicians who call the Child and Perinatal Psychiatric Access Network for consultation, and providing psychiatric care as part of the Community Psychiatry Workforce Expansion program.
Essential Functions
Treatment and Assessment:
Treat and assess patients with age‑specific interview techniques, offer pharmacological and psychosocial recommendations, prescribe medication, manage medication services, perform assessments such as AIMS, and educate patients and caregivers.
Evaluation:
Provide and document psychiatric evaluations, order and review lab work, and adjust treatment accordingly.
Documentation:
Document all services within 24 hours, including calls, medication changes, and referrals, and provide clear rationale for any treatment deviations.
Emergency Evaluation:
Provide child and adolescent psychiatric emergency evaluations, crisis services, and risk assessment.
Team Participation:
Attend treatment team meetings, medical staff meetings, peer review, quality management activities, and collaborate with team members to develop new services and improve service access.
Ideal candidate will demonstrate attendance, work schedule, policy compliance, required training and licensure, ethical behavior, and timely communication with staff and patients.

Qualifications
Required:
Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas, or ability to obtain prior to appointment.
Board certified in child and adolescent psychiatry, or board eligible with a commitment to obtain certification within two years.
Eligible for credentialing and privileging by Ascension Seton.
Eligible for credentialing and privileging in the local mental health authority.
Eligible for appointment as an assistant professor or higher in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
Eligible for faculty appointment with The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School.
Preferred:
Demonstrated leadership, clinical teaching, evaluation, and communication skills.
Ability to influence and motivate others at all professional and administrative levels.
