Job Summary
To assist the building principal in providing leadership, support, and assistance to students and staff to ensure learning occurs, equitable outcomes for all children, and a commitment to maintaining a safe environment for all. The Assistant Principal is responsible for being a partner with all District 72 stakeholders, working towards building positive relationships in the school community.

K-8 Principal

Qualifications

Education:

A master's degree in administration, school leadership, curriculum and instruction, or a related field

Bachelor's Degree with a valid Illinois Professional Educator's License (PEL)

Background in teaching and/or school counseling preferred

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience (preferably K-8)

Demonstrated experience in leadership roles (e.g., mentoring, coaching, or leading school initiatives)

Proven ability to analyze and apply student data to inform instruction and school improvement

Experience facilitating meetings, committees, or professional learning opportunities

Strong interest in continued professional growth and career advancement in school leadership

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

Illinois Professional Educators License with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement (Type 75)

Teacher Evaluator Modules (completed before beginning of contract)

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Assist teachers in growing and developing their instructional practices.

Supervise student behavior and discipline matters with a focus on restorative practices (principal will become involved in major cases).

Assist teachers, parents, and students in resolving non-academic student issues in the school.

Maintain records of any student disciplinary actions taken in accordance with District policies.

Confers with parents, teachers, support service personnel, and students on matters of discipline and problem-solving.

Assist in recruiting, selecting, and retaining high-performing staff dedicated to ensuring educational outcomes for students.

Leads and supports staff at committee meetings, including but not limited to curriculum, safety, multi-tiered system of support (MTSS), crisis management, data, and subject area committees, for the purposes of improving capacity for all staff members and students.

Co-plans and facilitates professional development and training for all staff.

Assists in supervising and co-coordinating transportation, arrival and dismissal plans, extra duties assignments to staff, and all supervision needs.

Conducts and coordinates safety inspections and safety drill practice activities and makes related recommendations for action to the principal.

Analyzes and disaggregates data to share with staff to assist and support student learning.

Organizes and manages all scheduling, including but not limited to district-wide assessment, state testing, master school schedule, transportation schedule, etc.

Acts as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting policies and activities of the school and encouraging community participation at school functions.

Assists in supervising, reporting, and monitoring student attendance and makes recommendations for action to the principals.

Required to attend District-wide community events after school hours (PTA events, Board Meetings, Extra-Curricular showcases, Concerts, Athletic competitions, etc.).

Oversee the implementation and compliance of Section 504 plans, ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations.

Partner with families to ensure clear communication regarding student supports and services.

Perform additional administrative duties as assigned by the principal.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The physical demands of the role include frequent movement, the ability to sit and use technology for extended periods, and occasional light lifting (up to 25 pounds). This position requires occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions and limited physical risk. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
