Job Purpose and Summary
At CVS Health, our Staff Pharmacists play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in our pharmacies. You will model our values, demonstrate genuine care for patients, and support the Pharmacy Manager in leading the pharmacy team and overseeing all pharmacy operations.

Responsibilities

Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.

Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as proxy during bench shifts, coaching the team and monitoring performance.

Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.

Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by directing the team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails.

Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy, collaborating with patients’ healthcare teams, and resolving insurance or medication issues.

Proactively offer and deliver immunizations, and support Pharmacy Technicians to learn immunization practices.

Manage pharmacy inventory, focusing on protecting cold‑chain products.

Ensure pharmacy operations comply with state Board of Pharmacy regulations, escalating issues as needed.

Remain flexible with scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.

Maintain clinical and technical skills through required and elective training and CME opportunities.

Support access to care by delivering pharmacist‑delivered clinical care, such as testing and prescribing services where permissible.

Understand and comply with all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; adhere to CVS Health policies, controlled‑substance dispensing, record‑keeping, privacy, and workplace safety.

Required Qualifications

Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located.

Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).

Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.

Essential Functions

Regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.

Complete required training within designated time frame.

Attention and Focus

Concentrate on tasks over a period of time.

Pivot quickly from one task to another to meet patient and business needs.

Confirm prescription information and label accuracy to ensure patient safety.

Customer Service and Team Orientation

Look for ways to help people in a friendly manner.

Notice and understand patients’ reactions and respond appropriately.

Communication Skills

Use verbal and written communication to interact with patients and colleagues.

Employ active listening, give full attention, ask questions, and avoid inappropriate interruptions.

Mathematical Reasoning

Use math to solve problems such as determining the total number of tablets, day’s supply, or bottles needed to fill a prescription.

Issue Resolution

Identify challenging patient or colleague interactions and choose the best course of action when faced with multiple options.

Physical Demands

Be mobile and remain upright for extended periods.

Lift, scan, and bag items; reach overhead; stretch or reach with arms or legs to grasp items.

Move fingers repeatedly; type or work primarily with fingers rather than whole hands.

Lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently, or negligible force for other tasks.

Rapidly adjust machines precisely and maintain visual acuity for small parts.

Perform any additional tasks directed by Supervisor or Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

1‑2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Ability to work in other locations across the market as business needs require.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is $60.00 – $76.00 per hour, based on experience, education, and geography.
