HS Social Studies
– Reports to: Principal
Job Objectives:
Plans, implements, and evaluates curriculum‑based learning experiences. Works with colleagues to ensure the provision of all services mandated by state and Federal law. Provides guidance and support to help students mature and make appropriate choices. Helps students pursue their academic and vocational goals. Actively encourages parental involvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Holds a valid State of Ohio teacher certificate/license appropriate for the assignment.
Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test).
Provides documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Prepares the classroom at the beginning of the year; retrieves books and supplies.
Teaches assigned classes as scheduled. Creates effective learning experiences. Ensures that the learning process aligns with state mandated proficiencies and the district’s written, implemented, and assessed curricula.
Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives.
Builds rapport with students, staff, parents, and the public; responds to requests and complaints promptly and tactfully; is receptive to constructive suggestions; respects privacy.
Communicates high expectations for students; helps them understand inter‑subject relationships and personal responsibility for goals.
Develops and maintains a positive learning environment that stimulates student interest, enthusiasm, and inquisitiveness.
Determines educational needs of students based on available sources.
Prepares written daily lesson plans reflecting the graded course of study; varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles.
Implements effective classroom management procedures; communicates school rules; upholds conduct code; protects due process rights.
Requisitions essential supplies and equipment to carry out the educational program.
Seeks and uses community resources to enhance activities.
Incorporates technology and media resources; monitors student use of email and the internet.
Helps students develop critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills; serves as a resource for those seeking additional information.
Organizes and maintains accurate records, reports, and inventories as required by law or policy; submits reports on time; protects confidentiality.
Complies with district procedures for student fee collection.
Evaluates and documents student progress; shares information with team members to support goals.
Assigns grades; provides periodic reports to parents.
Provides availability for parent consultations when requested.
Supports colleagues with teaching techniques and instructional materials.
Facilitates inclusive environment; provides opportunities for students with disabilities; coordinates placements for the next year.
Ensures student safety; supervises non‑classroom activities when assigned.
Participates in staff meetings and in‑service training; pursues professional development.
Serves as a role model; demonstrates integrity, responsibility, impartiality, respect, and courtesy.
Performs other specific duties as directed.
Abilities Required:
Professionalism and exemplary conduct; subject‑matter competence; enthusiasm for education.
Skilled management of individual, group, and organizational interactions.

Under the direction of the principal: schedules meaningful work assignments for aides, student teachers, and volunteers; provides instructions and communicates expectations.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and communicable diseases.
Interaction with disruptive individuals.
Exposure to student commotion.
Possibly operating or riding in a vehicle.
Considerable telephone contact and paperwork.
Working under time constraints; possibly evenings and weekends.
Performance Evaluation:
Job performance is evaluated according to policies adopted by the Sidney City School District Board of Education.

Salary: $45,956 to $78,125 Per Year
