Job Summary
The Safety Manager is responsible for safety inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA. The role evaluates the probability and severity of loss events and accidents that may result from actual or potential hazards.
Responsibilities
Develop and support the creation of a strategy for safety and compliance strategic goals.
Ensure site management has appropriate activity‑based goals for leaders, managers, and supervisors to drive safety culture and results.
Supervise, lead, and mentor company‑wide safety and compliance support staff.
Develop effective safety and compliance programs and policies designed to meet operational goals and reduce injuries and incidents.
Communicate safety and compliance strategy and objectives to leadership.
Support site management in implementing safety and compliance programs or policies.
Design and implement metrics to track progress, identify areas of concern, and drive accountability.
Design and execute broad programs such as electrical safety, air quality, industrial hygiene, driving safety, back injury prevention, heat and cold stress, injury illness prevention, first aid, CPR, Bloodborne Pathogen plan, flagger, and confined spaces.
Coordinate safety drills to transfer knowledge and core competencies.
Develop audit tracks and identify gaps in local compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures.
Lead incident investigation process, including cause analysis and corrective action planning.
Provide supervisor and management training on root cause analysis.
Assist site management in ensuring compliance with all regulatory agencies.
Monitor, interpret, and communicate regulatory changes to management.
Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce work‑process risks and improve safe work practices.
Provide technical advice, coaching, guidance, and mentoring to employees on safety initiatives.
Qualifications
Minimum 2‑3 years of Safety Management experience and training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current and valid state driver’s license.
Working knowledge of the construction and/or electrical industry.
Ability to read and understand maps, drawings, and diagrams for project plans.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
Authorized OSHA Outreach Instructor.
Certified Safety Professional (CSP).
Associate Safety Professional (ASP).
Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST).
Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment. The role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and working in inclement weather conditions such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
Essential functions include vision at 20 feet or more, visual acuity at 20 inches or less, precise hand‑eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
