Location: Great Beginnings Early Education Center – Paradise Park
Purpose Statement
The job of Paraprofessional Specialist was established for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with at‑risk students one‑on‑one; following educational and specific behavioral plans; documenting students' daily activities, and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.
Reports to School Principal.
Essential Functions
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support and reinforce classroom objectives.
Communicates with teacher(s) and a variety of health care professionals (e.g., Speech Therapist, PTs, COTAs) to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
Documents student's daily activities (behavior, completed assignments, on/off task times, etc.) for daily logs and hourly activities.
Implements instruction in Life Skills under the direction of the classroom teacher.
Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
Maintains manual and electronic files and records to provide written reference and meet mandated requirements.
Models conversation, manners, clean‑up activities, listening, and everyday interactions to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
Monitors student's daily schedule and behavior plan (class schedule, toileting, medication, appetite, etc.) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Provides instruction to students, under the direction of the classroom teacher (e.g., math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills) to implement IEP goals and assist in adapting to mainstream classrooms.
Remains with a student at all times to ensure safety and remove students when necessary; de‑escalates situations outside the classroom.
Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have 60 college credit hours or pass the Paraprofessional test in the State of MO, or complete the Missouri 20‑hour Online Substitute Training Program.
Skills: adhere to safety practices, prepare and maintain accurate records.
Knowledge: basic math (fractions, percents, ratios), read manuals, write documents, analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions; knowledge of age‑appropriate activities with high‑risk youth and grammar/punctuation concepts.
Abilities: schedule activities, gather and collate data, use job‑related equipment, work with diversity of individuals, solve problems, maintain confidentiality, work as part of a team, handle frequent interruptions.
Responsibilities: work under direct supervision, lead and coordinate others, operate within a defined budget.
Working environment: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching; requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing.
Job‑related experience and targeted education required.
Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver’s License, evidence of insurability.
Clearances: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
