Investigations Support Officer – Digital Forensics
Seasonal‑substitute/part‑time position (up to 500 hours per year, 25 hours per week).
Hours are flexible, Monday‑Friday between 8:00 am‑5:00 pm, typically three days per week. Employees may be required to work extra hours in response to short‑term department needs or city‑wide emergencies.
Location:
Chesapeake, VA.
Pay:
$24.93 – $33.04 per hour (based on qualifications and experience).
Key Responsibilities
Conduct forensic extractions and examinations of electronic devices, including cellular phones.
Identify, preserve, and analyze digital evidence to support criminal investigations and case development.
Review and assess large volumes of data to identify relevant evidence and investigative leads.
Detect patterns, connections, and inconsistencies to support investigative findings.
Prepare clear, accurate, and detailed reports for investigative and legal purposes.
Collaborate with detectives and investigative personnel on active and complex cases.
Ensure all digital evidence is handled and processed in compliance with established procedures and evidentiary standards.

Ability to evaluate data, identify patterns, and draw logical, evidence‑based conclusions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Interest or experience in digital forensics, criminal investigations, or a related field preferred.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma, GED/HSE, or equivalent, plus completion of a DCJS‑certified law enforcement academy.
Two or more years of experience as a law enforcement officer.
Cell‑brite Certified Operator and/or Analyst preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Two years of experience conducting digital forensic downloads of electronics.
Minimum of 2 years of law enforcement experience.
VCIN certification or ability to obtain.
Certified Cell‑brite Operator/Analyst and/or Graykey Magnet Certified examiner.

Work hours: up to 25 hours per week, flexible schedule.

Pay grade: GE 10.
