Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Patient Care Technician / Senior Nursing Attendant - Pediatrics, Part-Time, Nights. In this role, the successful candidate assists in implementation of the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse. The role assists in maintaining an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit.
Job Responsibilities

Assist with admission/transfer/discharge of patients: orient patient to hospital environment, provide toileting supplies, help patient remove clothes, complete property check list and safeguard personal property through security. Assist in transferring patients by gathering belongings, completing clothing list, and helping move the patient. Prepare bedside unit to receive patients. Discharge: assist patient to dress and pack personal belongings. Escort patient as necessary and remain with patient until patient has left the building.
Conduct patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety, and personal needs. Answer patient call lights and respond promptly to patient needs.
Assemble O2 (e.g., nasal cannula) and suction set‑ups.
Provide basic hygiene to patients: bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, shaving, and assistance with bedpan, urinal and/or commode.
Prepare patients for meals including clearing overbed tables, placing within reach, positioning the patient correctly for eating or tube feedings, assisting with utensils and food items. Feed patients.
Perform and/or assist patient with simple treatments. Remove and reapply SCD wraps as directed by the RN. Assist RN in enema procedures.
Collect specimens as directed by the RN.
Inform RN of any audible clinical alarms such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, ventilators, and bedside monitors.
Assist with moving, lifting, positioning and transporting patients.
Assist with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures, as needed.
Change linen in accordance with policy and as necessary.
Take and electronically record blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, and respiration per care level standard and as directed by the RN. Report any abnormalities to RN.
Weigh patients and electronically record on admission as ordered and as directed by the RN.
Measure and record oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric and other drainage onto I/O record (form or electronic). Calculate 8‑hour totals. Empty drainage bags.
Perform post‑mortem care.
Perform safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints per policy and as directed.
Report any changes observed in the patient’s condition to the RN.
Respond to and meet patient/family needs and customer concerns with compassion and understanding. Establish effective, caring relationships with staff, patients, family and other members of the healthcare team.
Maintain competence through in‑service and educational programs.
Attend staff meetings and review/sign minutes of meetings not attended. Maintain a safe and uncluttered environment of care in patient rooms including removing excessive furniture, supplies, and equipment. Assist with supply and equipment management of patient, procedure and supply rooms per department standards.
Maintain cleanliness of utility rooms and pantries as assigned.
Perform other duties such as errands, relieving other units, bringing stretchers, and assisting other members of the health team, as directed.
Discuss personal or unit‑based educational goals/plans with the Nurse Manager and/or Nursing Professional Development Specialist, as appropriate.
Demonstrate accountability for supplies, equipment, and environmental support.
Assist in the collection of data for the units Quality and Performance Improvement Program that includes patient satisfaction and other measures.
Provide instruction and demonstrate desired skills before NAs are expected to undertake new tasks within their scope.
Share feedback to both new and current NAs as it relates to areas where there are opportunities for development.
Perform other duties as aligned with the mission and values of the organization.
Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant Program, certified as a CNA, and at least 6 months of relevant experience. BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification (issued by the American Heart Association–AHA) is required upon entry to the position. Competencies: Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal, reading and writing abilities; other languages an asset; strong customer service and communication skills.

Basic Life Support Cert

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $26.80 - $26.80 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
