About the Role

The Company is seeking a General Counsel to serve as its chief legal and compliance officer, providing strategic legal guidance on a wide range of complex matters. The successful candidate will be a proactive, solutions-oriented advisor, promoting sound decision-making and mitigating institutional risk. This role is highly visible and requires the ability to advise on issues from employment and labor relations to free expression, student matters, and emerging regulatory challenges. The General Counsel will also oversee the University's compliance program, centralized policy management system, and enterprise risk management process, and will be responsible for maintaining strong relationships with outside counsel.

Applicants for the General Counsel position at the company should have a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited U.S. law school, a current license to practice in the State of Massachusetts, or eligibility to apply for admission. A minimum of ten years of progressive responsibility in higher education or public-sector law is required, with a strong preference for those with experience in a collective bargaining environment. The role demands excellent legal research and analysis skills, as well as the ability to communicate and interact effectively with officials at all levels. The General Counsel will be expected to have a deep knowledge of applicable laws and regulations, particularly those governing employment and higher education, and to demonstrate a commitment to justice, equity, and transformation in all college processes and programming.
