Overview
ASPCA’s Community Medicine (CM) team provides expert veterinary care to underserved communities in New York, Miami, and Los Angeles through stationary and mobile clinics. The Licensed Veterinary Technician Staff and Floor Manager (CVC) supports high‑volume spay‑neuter surgery and primary pet care for cats and dogs, directs floor workflow, assists veterinarians, and communicates with clients.
What You’ll Do
• Direct clinic floor workflow for high‑quality, high‑volume spay‑neuter surgery and primary pet care.
• Assist veterinarians in medical treatments, anesthesia monitoring, surgical preparations, diagnostics, pharmacy, and patient recovery.
• Communicate kindly and non‑judgmentally with clients, manage intake, obtain history, and discharge patients.
• Coach staff on gentle animal handling, client communication, and compliance with DEA and CM protocols.
• Ensure staff take mandatory breaks and meet attendance guidelines.
• Train and onboard new nursing team members and interns/residents.
• Lead daily huddles, manage time and attendance, review time sheets, approve time‑off requests, and facilitate staff development.
• Serve on the CVC Leadership Team and support a culture of safety, kindness, and teamwork.
Responsibilities

Assist veterinarians in venipuncture, anesthesia monitoring, surgical prep, diagnostics, pharmacy, and patient recovery.
Communicate with clients using a kind, non‑judgmental approach; assist with intake, obtain history, and discharge patients.
Coach nursing staff on gentle animal handling and client communication; reinforce CM SOPs.
Ensure compliance with DEA regulations and CM controlled‑drug protocols; monitor drug logs.
Ensure staff take mandatory rest and meal breaks and adhere to time and attendance guidelines.
Train and onboard new nursing team members, interns, and residents.
Lead daily huddles and facilitate staff development.
Serve on the CVC Leadership Team and support a culture of safety, kindness, and teamwork.
Assist with hiring new staff, schedule nursing coverage, manage time and attendance, review time sheets, approve time‑off requests.
Education and Work Experience
Graduate of an accredited veterinary technology program (2‑ or 4‑year) or equivalent.
Minimum five years experience as a Registered Veterinary Technician in small‑animal medicine and surgery; shelter medicine or high‑volume spay‑neuter experience strongly preferred.
Minimum two years people management experience.
Qualifications
Current New York State Veterinary Technician License.
Excellent animal handling skills.
Ability to lift and carry 40‑plus pounds repeatedly (with assistance) and stand for at least 8 hours.
Strong interest in animal welfare and serving underserved communities.
Desire to serve clients in a kind, helpful, and non‑judgmental manner.
Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, challenging environment.
Proficiency in communicating effectively with staff and clients.
Fear Free® Shelter certification within 60 days of hire.
Ability to exemplify ASPCA’s core values and behavioral competencies.
Language Requirements
English (required).
Spanish (preferred).
Compensation and Benefits
• Target hiring range: $44.24‑$46.64 per hour.
• Signing bonus: $1,500.
• Retention bonus: $1,500 after one year of service.
