
Instructor, Surgical Technology/Sterile Processing & Clinical Coordinator - Tenu

Position Overview
The College of Southern Nevada is seeking a Clinical Coordinator to collaborate with the Surgical Technology Program Director to provide a safe and educational experience for students in the clinical setting, act as a liaison between clinical sites and the college, secure new clinical sites, and serve as a resource for clinical site instructors.
Organizational Relationships
Clinical Coordinator works closely with the Surgical Technology Program Director, hospital staff and administration, and students.
Fall Semester Responsibilities
Teach and test the lab competencies to all students in both programs.
Maintain necessary stock of supplies for both Las Vegas and Reno clinical labs.
Teach online didactic portion of Sterile Processing program.
Coordinate time for student orientations at clinical sites.
Coordinatetime for badging of all students for clinical sites.
Ensure the following documents are in order prior to spring semester.
Background checks completed and filed with clinical sites.
Immunization records filed with clinical sites.
Any other documentation required by clinical sites.
Coordinate operating room observation during fall semester
conduct observations.
Coordinate time fora tour ofthe operating room.
Participate in tour of operating room.
Ensure clinical site affiliation agreements are up to date.
Attempt to secure additional clinical sites.
Make student assignments to clinical sites for the spring semester.
Other duties as assigned by Director.
Spring Semester Responsibilities
Teach and test lab competencies for the Sterile Processing students.
Teach online didactic portion of the Sterile Processing program.
Ensure all documentation is in order for prior to (Spring Semester) Sterile Processing students attending clinical rotation.
Gain and maintain a good relationship between CSN and clinical sites.
Be a resource for clinical instructors.
Consult with Surgical Technology Program Director as needed.
Implement changes to improve current processes and experiences.
Seek out additional clinical sites.
Act as clinical instructor at assigned clinical site.
Summer Semester Responsibilities
Act as clinical instructor at assigned clinical site.
Gain and maintain a good relationship between CSN and clinical sites.
Be a resource for clinical instructors.
Consult with Surgical Technology Program Director as needed.
Implement changes to improve current processes and experiences.
Additional Duties & Expectations
Participate in continuing education seminars and in professional development opportunities in order to maintain current state‑of‑the‑art knowledge and skills.
Exhibits professional behavior and serves as a role model for students.
Makes himself/herself available for students’ and instructors’ questions and learning needs.
Report any missed time and/or day(s) immediately to the Surgical Technology Program Director.
Check your CSN email on a weekly basis.
Grade assignments in a timely manner.
Input grades in CANVAS in a timely manner.
Meeting all classes/clinical externships at the time, place and length of time contracted.
Teaching courses as assigned which correlate with the catalog descriptions and course outlines in a manner designed to assist the student to achieve the specific objectives of the course.
Course Outline Responsibilities
The goals, objectives, and content for the course of study.
Required and supplementary textbooks to be used.
Attendancerequirements.
Behavior and discipline requirements.
Planned schedule ofexaminations, field trips or other special activities.
Out-of-class assignment policy.
Method of evaluating student process toward an achievement of course goals and objectives, including the method by which the final grade is derived.
Information about office hour availability and appointment procedures.
Other information, which advises students of those requirements established by the instructor and Surgical Technology Program Director for meeting the course objectives.
Other duties as assigned by the Surgical Technology Director.
Required Qualifications
The Surgical Technology Program Clinical Coordinator must meet the qualifications as set forth by the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).
Hold a current CST or CFA (Certified Surgical Technologist or Certified First Assistant).
Minimum of three [3] years of experience in the operating room in the scrub role or three [3] years of current experience as an instructor of surgical technology or a combination of both.
Preferred Qualifications
At least one year of experience teaching at a community college.
Experience with curriculum development.
Experience teaching online courses.
Experience teaching and/or working with diverse student and staff populations.
Experience developing and implementing field trips for undergraduates to local/regional areas of interest.
Starting Salary Information
Initial salary placement is based on educational level and total years of full‑time equivalent teaching experience. For example, for an instructor with a Master’s degree the salary range would be $58,046 to $74,304 annually. The entire salary range is up to $89,166 annually with a Doctorate and 10 years’ experience. A maximum of 10 years of experience will be considered for the initial salary placement purposes.
