INSTITUTIONAL POLICE OFFICER (8204) - REISSUED
Full-time, Permanent Civil Service. Job Code and Title: 8204-Institutional Police Officer. Classified – Provisional (temporary provisional position).

Department: Public Safety Department.

Location: City College of San Francisco, Ocean Campus and other campuses.

Salary range: $49,406 – $59,801 hourly, $102,765 – $124,387 annually (entrance salary step unless stated otherwise).

Essential Functions

Administers first aid to students, staff and/or visitors.

Arrests individuals engaging in illegal activities.

Collaborates with community agencies to address investigations and security incidents.

Communicates safety and security policies and procedures to students, staff and visitors.

Enforces applicable laws and college policies.

Escorts students, personnel and visitors for safety.

Investigates campus crimes and related incidents.

Participates in unit meetings, training and workshops.

Patrols college facilities to provide visibility and deter criminal activity.

Prepares a variety of documents such as police reports, citations, incident reports and logs.

Presents information in settings such as classrooms and staff orientations.

Provides traffic and parking control.

Reports safety issues to relevant departments.

Responds to a variety of situations including accidents, injuries, vandalism and alarms.

Responds to calls for services concerning campus security.

Testifies in court proceedings.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:

High School diploma or equivalent (GED)

AND

Experience:

One year as a police officer, member of a military police unit, or other work safeguarding life and property

AND

License & Certification:

Valid California Driver License.

Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate issued by the California Department of Justice (to be held within 12 months of hire).

Desirable Qualifications:

Post academy certificate.

Completion of at least 60 college credit units in Administration of Justice.

Two years of verifiable work experience.

One year of law enforcement experience.

Specialized training in law enforcement, security or related field.

Experience in an educational setting, preferably community colleges.

Sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and disabilities of community college population.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and holidays.

Good organizational skills and attention to detail.

Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple interruptions.

Knowledge of regulations related to handling confidential student information.

Benefits
Eligible for membership in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and contribution to the San Francisco Retiree Health Care Trust Fund. Positions do not participate in the San Francisco Employees’ Retirement System.
