Job Description And Duties
Under the direction of the Correctional Plant Manager II, the Correctional Plant Supervisor is responsible for supervising the institutional maintenance staff, directing them in all phases of proper maintenance and construction practices, and maintaining safety. The candidate will directly supervise the Chief Engineer I, Supervisor of Building Trades, Supervising Groundskeeper II, Equipment Maintenance Supervisor, and the Associate Governmental Program Analyst. The role also serves as acting Correctional Plant Manager II during the manager’s absence and performs additional duties as required.
Key responsibilities include:
Develop and enforce preventive maintenance programs for buildings and mechanical equipment.
Plan and direct the work of skilled craftspersons and semi-skilled workers, ensuring accurate record keeping and timely reports.
Maintain safety consciousness, including familiarization with emergency procedures, fire extinguisher locations, and hazard reporting.
Provide leadership and support to the maintenance staff to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
This is a 12‑month limited term position (subject to extension to 24 months) that may become permanent.
Working Conditions
Centinela State Prison, 2302 Brown Road, Imperial, CA 92251. Work is conducted on a regular daytime schedule; telework is not permitted.

Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of heating, electrical, plumbing, water, refrigeration, sewage, and other mechanical systems; operation of high‑pressure steam boilers; mechanical refrigeration and air‑conditioning systems.
Experience with maintenance of buildings and grounds, including materials, methods, and tools.
Understanding of OSHA rules, personnel management principles, and affirmative action program objectives.
Ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications; develop cost estimates and preventive maintenance plans.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and record keeping.
Ability to think and act quickly in emergencies and to contribute to the department’s affirmative action objectives.
