is hiring an extraordinary Oncology Veterinary Technician!
Pay: $21.00 - $40.00 / hour
This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.
A BluePearl Oncology Technician is self‑motivated, quick‑thinking, and able to multi‑task efficiently. Good communication skills and compassion are a must. Preference is given to candidates with a minimum of two or more years’ experience in a specialty veterinary hospital. The right candidate will be responsible for treating and monitoring patients as well as supporting the clinician with patient care and client communication.
As An Oncology Technician, You Will
Perform physical exam; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
Understand normal vital and lab parameters and alert doctor when abnormal.
Perform phlebotomy.
Place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
Calculate basic medical math.
Set up appropriate materials for chemotherapy administration.
Safely dispense and administer oral chemotherapy agents.
Safely dispense, reconstitute and administer SC/IM chemotherapy agents.
Check chemotherapy agent calculations and dosages.
Properly shave and wrap for an IV catheter for chemotherapy infusion.
Know how to manage chemotherapy extravasation and the appropriate response.
Admit oncology patients and obtain thorough history including current medications, dosages, response to treatment and side effects, intensity and duration.
Discharge oncology patients from the hospital, including basic client education on post‑chemo care.
Maintain solid grasp of common veterinary medical terms and abbreviations and converse with other veterinary professionals in medical terms.
Address client concerns and answer them appropriately during visits, updates, or after hospitalization and facilitate incoming calls.
Know tumor types.
Understand diagnostic work‑up protocols, including oncology‑specific terminology for each tumor/cancer type per hospital protocol.
Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
Maintain hospital day‑to‑day function and operation (stocking, cleaning, etc.).
