Legal Assistant 1 (Local Government) - Pike County

As a Legal Assistant 1, you will perform work in the review, analysis, and processing of various legal documents such as complaints, appeals, enforcement actions, and transactional materials. You will be trained to ensure these documents comply with relevant laws and financial agreements, while developing preliminary recommendations for further action. Additionally, your role will encompass a range of legal secretarial tasks, including word processing, preparing trial materials, drafting responses to inquiries, and maintaining legal files and dockets. You will also be responsible for entering cases into an electronic database, tracking deadlines, verifying citations, and filing documents with courts and agencies. This position requires handling sensitive information in accordance with attorney-client privilege, and while initial tasks will be closely supervised, reviews of a routine nature may be conducted independently as experience is gained to ensure timeliness, accuracy, correct formatting, and adherence to procedural and other legal requirements.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full-time employment

Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with 30‑minute lunch.

Telework:

You will not have the option to telework in this position.

In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

Three years of progressively responsible clerical, auditing, enforcement, or investigative experience; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Pike County. If no eligible candidates who live within Pike County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements

A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening.

You must pass a background investigation.

This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.

Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
