This position pilots State-owned/leased single-engine fixed wing aircraft and/or helicopters in support of law enforcement missions, Search and Rescue (SAR), and other duties as directed.

What You Will Be Doing
You may fill the following duty positions based on location or operational need:

Light single-engine fixed wing aircraft pilot and/or instructor

Turbine aircraft pilot and/or instructor

Working Conditions
This position is located and based out of the Fairbanks-based Aircraft Section. It requires travel throughout Alaska and may follow an alternate work schedule such as eight days on, six days off.

Qualifications

Correlation level knowledge of flying maneuvers required for day, night, and instrument flying conditions; skill piloting light fixed wing aircraft operated by the department.

Single engine commercial pilot certificate and instrument pilot rating.

Minimum 1,500 flight hours, including 500 hours as Pilot-in-Command of fixed wing aircraft, of which 250 hours must be Alaska time (including 100 hours logged within 12 months prior to employment); preferred 100 hours turbine experience.

Knowledge of aircraft maintenance procedures; ability to perform post-maintenance checks and coordinate findings with maintenance personnel; ability to log logistics support for aircraft relocation.

Computer skills for web-based pre-flight weather briefings, filing of flight plans, and flight risk assessments.

Ability to make safe go
o-go flight decisions, considering weather and other safety factors.

Current FAA licensure as a single-engine commercial pilot with instrument rating; Class II medical certificate required.

Must successfully complete a flight check and obtain approval from a certified flight instructor for the aircraft to be flown.

Must submit to a fingerprint-based criminal history background check.
