
Staff Accountant

We are seeking a Staff Accountant to join a Finance & Accounting team supporting a services‑driven organization. This role plays a critical part in managing project accounting processes, including Statements of Work (SOWs), invoicing, revenue recognition, sales tax compliance, and collections. The Staff Accountant will partner closely with operations, sales, and services teams to ensure accurate financial tracking, timely billing, and efficient workflows. This position also focuses on identifying process improvements and enhancing systems to support scalability and operational excellence.
Worksite Location
Hybrid in the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities. On‑site work is required 3–4 days per week.
Salary
$75,000–$85,000.

Roles & Responsibilities
Oversee project setup and maintenance within CRM and ERP systems, ensuring accuracy throughout the project lifecycle
Review and interpret Statements of Work to validate scope, billing structure, timelines, and resource alignment
Partner cross‑functionally to support project kickoff, tracking, and completion activities
Monitor project progress and proactively identify risks impacting billing or revenue recognition
Ensure timely and accurate submission and coding of billable time entries
Reconcile internal and third‑party labor hours against invoices and financial records
Generate and issue invoices for products and services in accordance with contractual requirements
Validate billing accuracy and resolve discrepancies through research and collaboration
Prepare customer statements, aging reports, and account reconciliations
Manage collections efforts to reduce outstanding balances and improve cash flow
Communicate with clients to resolve billing questions and payment delays
Identify and implement process improvements to streamline invoicing and collections workflows
Apply appropriate sales and use tax to transactions in compliance with applicable regulations
Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across multiple jurisdictions
Reconcile tax accounts and maintain proper supporting documentation
Track vendor agreements and ensure compliance with contractual terms
Support ongoing enhancements to systems, reporting tools, and operational processes
Contribute to ad‑hoc accounting and finance projects as needed
Required Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline preferred
Prior experience supporting accounting operations such as billing, receivables, or reconciliations
Familiarity with project‑based accounting or services environments is a plus
Experience working within ERP and/or CRM systems (NetSuite exposure preferred)
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across departments
Self‑motivated with a continuous improvement mindset
