Job Description
Scrum Master - involves facilitating the agile Scrum process by coaching the team on Scrum principles, removing impediments, and leading ceremonies. This role acts as a servant-leader and coach, who helps the team self‑organize and improve their productivity, ensuring adherence to the framework.
Responsibilities
Facilitate Scrum events: Organize and lead all Scrum ceremonies, including the Daily Scrum, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
Remove impediments: Identify and help resolve any obstacles or issues that slow down the development team.
Coach the team: Train and mentor the team on Scrum theory, practices, and agile principles to foster self‑organization and continuous improvement.
Support the Product Owner: Work with the Product Owner to ensure the product backlog is well‑managed and understood by the development team.
Promote communication: Ensure effective communication within the Scrum team and between the team and stakeholders.
Manage the agile board (ADO), including agile metrics such as sprint burndowns, burn‑ups, work planned vs completed, and velocity, keeping the board in good working order.
Report: Regularly analyze burndown charts and communicate work planned vs. work completed by sprint, team velocity, and other portfolio reporting to understand what gets built and at what cadence.
Required Working Experience & Education
3+ years experience as a Scrum Master, with expertise in Scrum techniques and artifacts (Scrum, Kanban, user stories, backlogs, boards, sprint planning, retrospectives, burndown metrics, velocity).
Solid understanding of software development life cycle models and the ability to blend Agile and traditional project‑management principles as appropriate.
Proven track record of successfully implementing projects using Agile methodologies.
Agile certifications required (CSM, PSM, etc.).
Experience working with multidisciplinary project teams that include Developers, IT Business Analysts, Architects, QA, Product Owners, Sponsors, etc.
Experience coordinating with multiple extended teams.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Must Have
Agile project‑management tools such as Azure DevOps, Rally, Jira, etc.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
Personal Must Have
Proactive, takes initiative, accountable, and self‑motivated.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including meeting facilitation and presentation skills.
Collaborator and team player, with the ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships.
Strong planning and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
Ability to work and think independently and meet tight deadlines.
Ability to share knowledge at different levels and be hands‑on with the team as required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent problem‑solving and influencing skills.
Excellent negotiation and conflict‑management skills.
Preferences
Preference is for the Scrum Master to be local to Hartford, CT, and available to come into the office two days per week.
