P/T Security Ambassador

Perform administrative and security related duties to ensure the safety of downtown parking decks, sidewalks, public space, and any other administrative duties related to the operations of Municipal Court, including screening items and people entering the courtroom. Aids court personnel and maintains a secure court entrance. Responds to incidents of disruptive and nuisance activities in downtown parking decks, investigates reports of suspicious activity in the downtown area, and assists citizens with parking needs. Security Ambassadors will perform facility and grounds patrols and inspections in the downtown parking decks, areas of special events, and related areas. They will contact Sworn Patrol Officers when there is a need to enforce criminal laws related to unlawful activity and conduct other duties assigned by the Administrative Bureau Captain.

Responsibilities
When working in a downtown security capacity:

Conduct vehicle and foot patrols of the downtown parking decks, sidewalks, and areas of special interest.

Monitor security cameras for illegal activity in the downtown area and areas of special interest.

Organize and maintain secure parking decks, enforce parking rules and regulations implemented by the City of Gainesville.

Recognize and react to stressful situations.

Aid officers with parking and patron issues in the downtown area and areas of special interest.

When working in a bailiff capacity:

Conduct metal detection of individuals before entering Municipal Court.

Screen all purses, briefcases, packages, and other personal items entering the Municipal Courtroom.

Maintain and check that the Municipal Courtroom is intact and in order before and after court.

Organize and maintain a secure court entrance while recognizing and reacting to stressful situations.

Aid court personnel and officers with court paperwork and any other duties that may be assigned.

Maintain and keep up to date on court schedule.

Perform other related duties as required.

Education and Experience

Any equivalent combination of education and experience provides the minimum necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the requirements of the position and also provides the minimum level of qualifications stated below.

High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience in law enforcement or court system preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Class C Driver’s License and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to organize and prioritize duties.

Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and the public.

Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public.

Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the judge, court clerks, and all people having contact or business with Municipal Court.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to interpret established rules, regulations, and policies and procedures.

Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.

Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action.
