Job Description
The EMS Coordinator supports the operational, administrative, and training functions of Radford University Emergency Medical Services (RUEMS), a student‑run volunteer EMS agency. This position serves as a professional staff liaison between RUEMS, the Department of Emergency Management, university departments, and external emergency response partners. While RUEMS maintains its student command structure and leadership model, the EMS Coordinator provides continuity, mentorship, and administrative coordination to support the agency’s day‑to‑day operations. The role assists with staffing, training, operational readiness, and compliance while helping ensure alignment with university policies and applicable EMS regulations.
The EMS Coordinator works under the supervision of the Director of Emergency Management and collaborates closely with the RUEMS Chief and student leadership team.
Required Qualifications
Current EMT certification (Virginia certification preferred or ability to obtain).
Experience working in Emergency Medical Services or a related emergency response field.
Ability to work effectively with student organizations and student leadership.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently while maintaining coordination with university leadership.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and special events.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in collegiate EMS or a university environment.
Experience supervising, mentoring, or coordinating volunteer EMS personnel.
EMS instructor credentials or experience delivering training or continuing education.
Familiarity with Virginia EMS regulations and reporting requirements.
Experience coordinating with public safety or emergency management agencies.
Knowledge of incident command systems (ICS) or emergency management principles.
