Job Summary
The Occupational Health Nurse reports directly to the General Managers at each site and indirectly to the Occupational Health Coordinator. The role requires a valid RN license in the state of Indiana and current CPR/AED certification. It is a full‑time position (Monday–Friday) with on‑call coverage after hours for injury response.
Responsibilities
Treatment of on‑site injuries and referral to outside medical care as needed
Case management for injured workers and facilitation of return to work
Provide medical surveillance for all employees, including annual audiograms, spirometry, vision screening, and lead testing
Provide medical surveillance and case management at the Pittsboro, Indiana plant
Conduct new‑hire pre‑employment drug and alcohol screening and coordinate medical examinations
Participate in ergonomics assessments and job hazard analyses
Administer the Drug and Alcohol program according to company policy
Train employees in First Aid and CPR/AED as medical responders to aid in the care of injured workers
Train employees on Bloodborne Pathogens, Hearing Conservation, Violence in the workplace, Ergonomics, and Heat Stress to meet OSHA requirements
Advise on Workers' Compensation claims, as needed
Administer FMLA
Maintain HIPAA‑compliant documentation
Accountable for delivery of agreed‑to regional health metrics and outcomes
Purchase supplies required for the first aid clinic
Develop and meet site budget expectations
Drive increased health outcomes, including reducing population health risks, managing, and improving employee health
Qualifications
Required
Active RN license in Indiana
Two or more years of hospital or clinic nursing experience
Excellent assessment skills in a clinical setting
Phlebotomy experience
Current CPR/AED certification
Travel, as needed
Must not be related to another employee at the Steel Dynamics Flat Roll Division
Preferred
Three or more years of experience in occupational nursing, emergency nursing, or clinic experience
Three or more years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, and/or occupational environments
Working knowledge of regulatory areas (ADA, OSHA, FMLA, Workers' Compensation)
CPR/AED instructor certification
Health coaching or related certification
