Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Full Time (40 Hours/Week) – Office/On‑Site – Rocky Hill, CT

Position Overview
The State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) seeks a dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide bedside care and support in a full‑time capacity at our Health Care Center and Veterans Outpatient Clinic (VOC) located on the Rocky Hill campus. The role involves providing exceptional care to Connecticut veterans in both facilities.

Position Highlights

Location: Health Care Center & Veterans Outpatient Clinic, 287 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT

Schedule: Full‑time, 40 hours/week, First Shift 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM; rotation as follows:

Week 1: Friday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Week 2: Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Salary: $63,443 – $84,813 per year (state minimum for new hires)

Responsibilities

Assist doctors and nurses in general care and treatment of veterans

Measure, administer, and document medications including insulin injections

Perform narcotic counts and administer intravenous medications as ordered

Apply restraints correctly and transcribe medication orders

Dispense certain medications in physician’s absence and apply topical medications

Take and chart vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations)

Provide simple nursing treatments and monitor general needs, including personal hygiene

Report changes in individual conditions and behaviors to physicians

Maintain a safe and healthy unit environment

Administer enemas or suppositories and assist with Foley catheterization care

Orient individuals regarding medications and their use

Provide emergency first aid, drive patients to appointments, and perform related duties as required

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability

Practical nursing specialties and bedside care

Medications used for individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities

Infection control practices, nutrition, diet, and basic medical and laboratory sciences

Interpersonal, oral communication, and written communication skills

Record keeping and ability to lead staff when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

License or temporary permit to practice nursing in Connecticut issued by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing, or a Multistate/Compact Licensed Practical Nurse license

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a Skilled Nursing Facility

Experience with Long‑Term Care Facility regulations (PH & CMS)

Experience serving veteran populations and with dementia patients

Experience documenting in electronic Health Record (eMAR)

Experience de‑escalating and calming clients or patients

Special Requirements

Possession of a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license, Public Passenger Endorsement, or Commercial Driver’s license for designated positions (DEPARTMENT OF DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES)
