Position Overview
OPENING DATE:04/22/2026 CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled BARGAINING UNIT: This position will be covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) once negotiations are complete. Until then, the role will follow current organizational policies and procedures.
SCHEDULING/HOURS OF WORK: Regular, Full-Time, 40 Hours Per Week; Priority Application Date: April 29, 2026 by 5:00 PM (Mountain Time). Applications with required attachments received by the priority date will be guaranteed consideration. The position will remain open until filled.

This recruitment is for a position at PHC’s Lowell School Clinic located halfway between Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks and home to the University of Montana. Partnership Health Center (PHC), a 14-site Federally Qualified Health Center in Missoula County, offers comprehensive primary care services—medical, dental, behavioral health, and an on‑site pharmacy—while addressing social determinants of health.

Job Summary
Provides clinical patient care as a member of a patient‑centered care team in all aspects of serving the patients of Partnership Health Center (PHC). This position trains new Medical Assistants (MA) through the full duty set required for the role and prepares employees to advance within the ladder. Employees may be eligible for advancement to the next level based on demonstrated competencies.
Responsibilities
Prioritize patient needs in person and on the telephone, manage patient flow, and ensure clinic appointments are conducted on schedule.
Conduct and record initial health interview, including health histories, medication reconciliation, and prepare patient for examination.
Gather and record vital signs, document interactions per clinic policies, and assist provider in minor procedures.
Collect specimens, draw blood, perform CLIA‑certified laboratory tests for waived tests.
Prepare and administer prescription medications and immunizations to patients in accordance with CDC regulations and PHC policies.
Communicate with other health care providers and coordinate referrals to specialists and laboratory testing facilities.
Refill prescriptions per provider directives and record in electronic medical record.
Maintain clinic work area and equipment, including cleaning and sterilization.
Complete additional supportive duties as directed by the care team (paperwork, cleaning patient rooms, sterilization, organization of supplies, material management, stocking).
Assist in material management, stocking of area, inventory, and ordering.
Advancement Pathway
Medical Assistant II – requires successful completion of MA I core competencies; performs all duties of MA I plus prescription phone pharmacies and participates in workflow improvements.
Medical Assistant III – requires success in MA II and Quality Improvement Project; performs all duties of MA I, II, and III.
Medical Assistant IV – requires success in MA III and completion of ImMTrax training; maintains ImMTrax vaccine access logs and participates in daily Team Huddles.
Other Duties
Performs related work as required or directed.
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Medical Assistant Manager or designee.
Working Relationships
Works extensively with the public seeking medical care; collaborates closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses and licensed practical nurses.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of medical assisting procedures, medical terminology, interviewing methods, office practices, HIPAA compliance, and PHC corporate compliance guidelines.
Skills: Collecting blood and urine specimens; using vital sign equipment; using electronic medical record and personal computer; administering immunizations.
Abilities: Work effectively as part of a care delivery team; remain calm and tactful in stressful situations; gather information through interview; respect confidentiality; communicate effectively in English; establish effective relationships with diverse individuals.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Graduation or GED.
Experience working as a Medical Assistant or in a healthcare setting (desired for MA I; one year required for MA II).
Current Healthcare Professional BLS certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Immunizations or proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases and a TB test; vaccination status required upon hire.
Pass criminal background check with fingerprinting.
Physical/Environmental Demands
Work while walking or standing most of the time; medium‑range lifting (20‑30 lbs), assisting patients on and off examination tables, and carrying children. Manual dexterity required for drawing blood. Potential exposure to bio‑hazardous waste, disinfectants, and communicable diseases. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, and travel to satellite locations. No work‑from‑home option.
