
Medical Laboratory Technician

Overview
As our Medical Lab Technologist, you will perform vital clinical laboratory procedures to detect, identify, measure, and report data crucial for disease diagnosis and treatment. You will conduct waived and moderate procedures with technical skills, instrumentation, and information systems, providing essential laboratory support while ensuring the quality and accuracy of all tests under leadership direction. You should possess knowledge of laboratory principles across multiple disciplines (microbiology, hematology, chemistry, etc.), understand sample processing and result interpretation, prioritize chemical and biological safety, and be adept at operating and maintaining lab equipment.
Responsibilities
Aligning with local and state requirements, perform lab test procedures on patient specimens adherent to the Section’s Standard Operating Procedures to ensure accurate, timely reporting.
Provide excellent patient care through clinical correlation of results, identify patterns of bias, rapidly notify appropriate caregivers of critical values, and complete testing within established turn-around-time limits.
Ensure major automated equipment is operational by performing maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting procedures; contact instrument vendors for assistance or repair as needed.
Perform required calibration and quality control procedures and maintain records to ensure tests are performed within established parameters.
Perform proficiency testing as assigned and review results with laboratory clinical leaders.
Assist in evaluation and generation of compliant documentation for the validation of new procedures and equipment to provide the physician with the most current laboratory technology.
Qualifications
Minimum
Associate’s Degree in a biological or chemical science as defined by CLIA or
High School or GED and completed an official military medical laboratory course and held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Lab Technician)
Must be appropriately trained in clinical laboratory science as evaluated by the Director of the Clinical Laboratory
Preferred
Medical Laboratory Technician AMT (MLT-AMT)
Medical Laboratory Technician ASCP (MLT)
Medical Lab Tech AAB (MLTECH)
