Responsibilities
This position is assigned primarily to the food program, ensuring prevention of foodborne illness and compliance with state regulations. Additional duties may include rabies prevention and inspections of hotels, swimming pools, and summer camps. Employees complete required training and become standardized in the food program within 30 months of hire. Occasional travel to other offices within the district may be required.
Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and internal/external partners, using basic computer software programs.
Provide services in a professional, courteous manner and present educational programs to adults; adopt a customer‑service oriented approach and work effectively as a team member.
Strong time‑management skills to meet workload demands.
Knowledge and experience in the assigned program area.
Ability to influence behavior of foodservice employees/management and provide services professionally.
Complete training in the VDH Soils program, VDH Food program or VDH Shellfish program and obtain credentials within 18 months (VDH Standardized in Food, DPOR COSE, DPOR AOSE, or NSSP State Standardized Inspector).
Valid State Driver’s License.
Experience in environmental health, e.g., experience gained as an Environmental Health Associate.
