Job Description Summary
The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina is hiring a Postdoctoral Scholar to join the Brain Stimulation Division under Lisa McTeague, Ph.D. The role focuses on multimodal characterization (EEG, fMRI, autonomic physiology) and modulation (brain stimulation, CBT) of transdiagnostic dysregulation of emotion and cognition.
Responsibilities
Supervise and advise research staff concerning individual case diagnoses and treatment for research subjects; conduct in-service staff training; assist Principal Investigators with policy and standards development; attend weekly clinical supervision and meetings.
Provide evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) interventions for depression and suicide risk prevention; prepare assessments and interpret medical findings.
Conduct data retrieval from large databases for reporting and analysis.
Assist with manuscript preparation and independent research, including writing, applying for funding, and presenting findings.
Obtain informed consent, enroll study participants, conduct psychiatric
europsychological intake visits, assist with recruiting and screening participants, and develop advertising materials.
Qualifications
Preferred Education and Experience:
Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD/PsyD); prior experience with CBT and structured diagnostic interviewing; prior experience with EEG, MRI, or other physiological measures and brain stimulation techniques (preferred but not mandatory).
Minimum Requirements:
PhD or equivalent required prior to start date.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform job functions continuously in an upright position for 6‑8 hours per shift, seated for 6‑8 hours, while walking or mobile for 2‑6 hours, climb stairs infrequently, work indoors, handle cold temperatures, bend, twist, pinch, use both hands/arms and legs, perform repetitive motions, lift up to 15 lbs., maintain vision and hearing acuity, and other listed physical tasks. Additional requirements include valid driver’s license, computer literacy, rotating shift and overtime flexibility, and ability to learn new processes.
