Controller
The Hiring Advisors, El Segundo, CA, United States
Controller Wanted: Numbers Ninja, Spreadsheet Whisperer, Budget Boss
Somewhere in the El Segundo orbit, a rapidly growing, VC-backed, hard-tech manufacturing company is looking for a Controller who can keep the financial engine humming while the rest of us try not to break things.
If you’ve ever looked at a messy general ledger and thought “I can fix that… and make it beautiful,” keep reading.
You’ll be the mastermind behind all things accounting—owning it, improving it, and occasionally saving it from chaos.
Take full ownership of accounting operations: from daily transactions to big-picture strategy
Lead month-end close like a pro—accurate, timely, and drama-free
Keep the general ledger clean enough to impress auditors and your inner perfectionist
Manage the money flow: payroll, vendors, leases, invoices—if it gets paid, you’re on it
Build and scale systems, processes, and a team as the company grows
Establish financial controls that make auditors nod approvingly
Handle tax compliance without breaking a sweat
Partner with engineering (yes, really) on purchasing, supplier negotiations, and BOM accuracy
Analyze spend and tell leadership where we’re being brilliant… or wasteful
Support board meetings, investor updates, and fundraising with clear, sharp reporting
Be the go-to advisor for executives on financial strategy and operational efficiency
What You Bring to the Table
Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or something equally practical
CPA (non-negotiable—you know why)
5+ years of accounting experience where you actually owned things
Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or supply chain environments
Deep knowledge of cost accounting, inventory, WIP, revenue recognition, and fixed assets
Bonus Points (Not Required, But We’ll Be Impressed)
You’ve sat in the Controller seat before (or close to it)
Startup experience where things changed… daily
You’ve survived an audit and lived to tell the tale
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables don’t scare you—they excite you)
Familiarity with QuickBooks or ERP systems
The Important Part
Compensation: Up to $225,000 (DOE)
If you’re looking for a role where you can own the numbers, influence decisions, and help scale something meaningful—this might be your next move.
Apply if you’re ready to trade “just closing the books” for actually helping write the story.
