What You’ll Be Contributing
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Under general supervision, repair and install shredding and conveying machinery, equipment, and buildings. Perform repairs on belts, bearings, pulleys, rollers, and related equipment; welding to repair broken machinery; work from drawings and blueprints to lay out and assemble all types of steel construction and repairs; and operate machine tools for parts used in the plant.
Perform welding, cutting, pipe fitting, fabrication, lubrication, and related repair on production machinery and equipment including conveyors, gearboxes, pumps, valves, compressors, and belt conveyor systems.
Install and align necessary equipment for safe production operation; if applicable, safely remove equipment.
Prepare required paperwork for repairs completed as assigned.
Participate in ISO 14000 training and MSHA Part 46 safety training.
Install, dismantle, repair, reassemble, and align machinery, equipment, and tools to improve function and operation.
Resolve routine maintenance problems effectively.
Operate cutting torch and plasma cutter for welding duties.
Perform lifting and rigging operations with mobile cranes after training.
Clean up after each maintenance job is completed.
Inspect and appropriately store tools.
Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To Succeed In This Position
High school graduation or equivalent; 18 years of age or older.
Ability to read, write, and understand warning labels, instructions, and signs.
Willingness to learn; training provided.
Two‑year technical education in mechanical maintenance with an emphasis on preventive maintenance preferred.
Two to three years related mechanical maintenance experience preferred.
Ability to interpret instructions, blueprints, drawings, and sketches; set up and operate alignment equipment.
Capable of safely operating a man lift, scissors lift, and forklift.
Proficient with hand tools, air and electric power tools, hoists, hand taps, dies, cutting torch, welding machines, wrenches, jacks, and rigging equipment.
Ability to read and understand troubleshooting guidelines.
Mechanical skills and ability to work on compressors and pumps; must pass a basic mechanical knowledge test.
Knowledge of welding symbols and ability to adjust welding machine settings.
Experience using cutting torch, plasma cutter, welding machine, and related protective equipment.
Ability to perform necessary mathematical functions and conversations.
Skill with shear, punch press, stationary drill, torch, band saw, hammer, rule, square, compass, protractor, overhead crane, forklift, and related equipment.
Familiarity with micrometers, dial indicators, calipers, depth gauges, and measuring devices.
Use of hydraulic press, overhead cranes, forklifts, cable slings, nylon slings, and rigging combinations.
Valid driver’s license for plant vehicles.
Ability to push tool carts, carry toolboxes, climb ladders, lift up to 50 lbs., work in confined spaces, and perform tasks at heights up to 350 feet.
What To Expect In a Cement Environment
Work will be performed in a shop environment and outdoors throughout the plant. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise; compliance with safety guidelines required. Exposure to high elevations up to 350 feet, all weather conditions, and mobile equipment vibration.
