Fraud Investigator

Job Summary
Fraud Investigator in the Human Services Program Integrity Division identifies, investigates, and eliminates fraudulent receipt of public assistance (CalWORKS, CalFresh, etc.). The role involves collecting and documenting evidence, preparing reports for fraud prevention or prosecution by the District Attorney’s office.

Active peace officers and bilingual candidates (Spanish/English) are encouraged to apply. Bilingual candidates must pass a language competency examination to receive bilingual compensation.

Qualifications

At least 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen or legal resident who has applied for citizenship.

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Fingerprinted and must pass a background investigation, medical examination and psychological evaluation. Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony.

Current, unexpired California Basic POST Certificate or higher (Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced).

Valid California Class C driver’s license. Travel throughout the County is required; employees may use personal vehicles and must maintain automobile liability insurance.

Sponsorship for visa is not accepted.

Experience

Option 1: One year of experience as a criminal investigator with sworn peace officer status, with primary responsibility for full‑time follow‑up criminal investigations in a law‑enforcement agency (traffic and correctional facility investigations are not qualifying).

Option 2: Two years of law‑enforcement patrol experience with sworn peace officer status enforcing the general criminal laws of the State.

Completion of a degree in Administration of Justice or Behavioral/Social Science is desirable.
