Seasonal Facilities Open Space Technician
Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) seeks a self‑starter who will perform routine and non‑routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and minor improvement projects for administrative offices, field offices, residences, and public facilities. The role includes semi‑skilled carpentry, basic painting, plumbing, electrical, and general construction tasks using hand and power tools. PPE and uniforms are provided. The seasonal assignment begins in early July 2026 and continues through January 2027.
Responsibilities
Conduct routine and non‑routine maintenance and repairs at administrative and field facilities.
Perform semi‑skilled carpentry, basic painting, plumbing, electrical, and general construction tasks.
Operate hand and power tools safely.
Assist with cleanup and routine maintenance of buildings and restrooms.
Assist the facilities team with preventive maintenance tasks and minor improvement projects.
Follow safety procedures involving poison oak exposure, rough terrain, and hot or inclement weather conditions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or G.E.D.
Valid California driver’s license.
Manual labor ability, including bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 60 pounds, and pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds.
Basic construction and maintenance skills with mechanical aptitude.
Comfortable working in or around poison oak and wildlife habitats.
Prior experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of facilities or work in public recreation areas is highly desirable.
Required certification in Basic First Aid/CPR, AED for Lay Responders after hire.
Schedule
Full‑time preferred, Monday through Friday on a 9/80 schedule with occasional weekend and holiday work. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits. A minimum of 6 consecutive months is expected.
Working Conditions
Work primarily in administrative offices, with additional field projects at field offices, residential housing, historic properties, ranch infrastructure, and public buildings such as the Daniels Nature Center. Field duties may involve traversing rough terrain, working in hot or inclement weather, and exposure to poison oak, wildlife, and rodents. Tasks include climbing ladders and entering confined spaces. Employees may interact with staff and the public regarding department policies and procedures.
Benefits
Seasonal housing is not available. Uniform, coveralls, and PPE are provided. No other benefits are included in this seasonal assignment.
