Oral Medication Technician (OMT) – Assisted Living
We are seeking an Oral Medication Technician (OMT) to join our Assisted Living team.
Responsibilities
Safely prepares, administers, and charts oral, topical, and suppository drugs. The OMT prepares the medicine and administers it, checking and preparing each dose immediately preceding administration.
Follows administration protocol: checks medication with transcribed or original order, verifies all information on the label or package for accuracy and clarity, clearly identifies the resident with the proper medication, administers scheduled narcotics only, and PRN narcotics to be administered by a nurse.
Reports medication errors or reactions immediately to the charge nurse, who reports to the resident’s attending physician and completes necessary documentation.
Checks with the charge nurse if there are any questions regarding any medication.
Records administration of the medication on the resident’s medication administration record.
Assists all residents with high‑quality personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, incontinent care, foot care, vital signs, height and weight checks per policy.
Assists residents during mealtime—cuts food and encourages eating.
Completes and documents shift assignments; reports any incomplete assignment to the nursing supervisor.
Communicates with residents, families, department heads, and the Director of Resident Services as needed.
Provides scheduled activities as directed.
Responds to call lights and emergencies in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Current Oral Medication Technician/Medication Aide certification.
Graduation from a certified 75‑hour Nursing Assistant Program.
Current status on the Iowa Nurse Aide Registry.
One (1) year of experience working as a CMA/OMT in assisted living preferred.
