
Social Caseworker – Children, Youth, & Family Services (Part-Time)

Are you passionate about supporting children and families in El Paso County and looking to build your skills as a caseworker? We’re seeking a self‑motivated, adaptable, and detail‑oriented part‑time caseworker to join our team in a non‑case‑carrying, support‑focused role. In this position you will work alongside caseworkers and multidisciplinary teams to assist with interviews, home visits, documentation, and overall intake and casework support. Your day will include a mix of in‑office responsibilities and fieldwork, providing meaningful support to both staff and the families served.
Hiring Range
Anticipated hourly compensation: $27.79 – $30.19
Work Schedule
Up to 25 hours per week Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. A hybrid schedule may be available after successful completion of the initial evaluation period.
Background Checks
Due to the sensitive nature of this role, additional background checks may be required, including a Government Program Fraud check, the Child Welfare Abuse & Neglect database (TRAILS) check, and a Child Welfare Caseworker Falsification check.
Responsibilities
Interview clients and develop appropriate treatment plans; initiate and/or participate in home studies and provide intensive casework services to families and children.
Investigate allegations of child abuse and assess imminent danger for children; make referrals to community resources and collateral contacts.
Monitor and report clients’ progress and provide service recommendations/referrals, ensuring needed services are being delivered and treatment plans are followed.
Address child safety issues in the home to mitigate concerns; ensure children under department custody or supervision receive necessary interventions.
Provide crisis management and coordinate support services for clients to resolve problems and conflicts.
Act as a liaison for the Department of Human Services and consult with other caseworkers and community professionals on case situations, treatment/case plans, and problems.
Provide casework and assessment services for teams within the Practice Unit.
Attend and testify in court hearings and mediations as needed; complete appropriate paperwork, documentation, and reports for court hearings and monitor compliance with court orders.
Prepare for and participate in meetings and staffing sessions.
Document all contacts and ensure all paperwork and documentation are accurately completed and filed; complete necessary case information reports and update the database.
Arrange and provide transportation for clients to appointments, therapy, school, court hearings, pre‑placement visits, etc.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and county laws, outcome measures, rules, and regulations; review cases to ensure case plans are developed and implemented.
Provide support to the Practice and Support and Services teams within the CYFS Division as needed.
Collect and report statistics and data on unit outcomes and performance.
Facilitate meetings as needed.
Perform other duties as required.
Supervision Exercised
This classification does not have supervisory authority but may provide expertise or limited guidance to employees, such as overseeing work quality, training, and guidance. Typically serves as a subject‑matter expert on the functional area scope.
Supervision Received
Receives general supervision. Duties are carried out following established policies and procedures; regular direction, guidance, and coaching from the supervisor may be expected. Performance is reviewed periodically.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of casework practices, procedures, and guidelines.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with co‑workers, clients, other agencies, community professionals, the courts, and the public; provide excellent customer service.
Ability to plan, schedule, and organize efficiently.
Ability to assess situations and make prudent and appropriate decisions; apply conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills.
Ability to complete paperwork, reports, and documentation accurately and efficiently.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Proficiency with standard office equipment (computer, fax, copier, telephone).
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field (human behavior, child development, family intervention techniques, diagnostic measures, or therapeutic techniques). A degree in progress that is conferred by the start date may be considered.
One year of professional, internship, or volunteer experience in a human‑service related agency. Successful completion of a BSW or MSW internship in a human‑services agency may substitute for the required experience.
Licenses / Certificates
Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance as required by El Paso County’s Personnel Policies Manual.
Required certifications applied for and obtained as applicable to the position.
Colorado State Child Welfare Caseworker Certification or successful completion of the initial examination within ninety days of enrollment.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
Pass conditional post‑offer background investigation, including fingerprinting, motor‑vehicle record check, and drug screen. College transcripts required prior to the date of hire.
Other Conditions
Duties are performed in an office environment, clients’ homes, schools, jails, and court. Must be able to climb stairs, walk up and down driveways and sidewalks, and occasionally lift files, supplies, children, or car seats. Hybrid remote work may be available depending upon department discretion and business needs. May be exposed to hostile family situations, unsanitary or hazardous conditions. Reliable personal vehicle required for client transportation; mileage reimbursement available. Position may require 24/7 on‑call and after‑hours rotational schedule, local and non‑local travel, and possible out‑of‑state travel. This is a part‑time position working up to 25 hours per week.
