Job Description
Work with higher‑level HVAC mechanics to perform general preventive and minor corrective maintenance under the guidance of a senior technician. This includes electronic and mechanical component work, installation of HVAC ductwork (flexible tubing and sheet‑metal construction), installation or repair of refrigerant lines and electrical connections to HVAC components, and recycling of CFC or HCFC refrigerants. Assist with and maintain, repair, replace, and preventatively maintain HVAC equipment, refrigeration equipment, and cold rooms. Provide on‑the‑job training, learn campus building identifiers, tools, equipment, and materials, and complete the NCCER Core training program.

Normal Work Schedule

9:00 PM – 7:30 AM, Monday‑Thursday

40 hours per week

Assist in emergency work as needed

Standby as required

Essential personnel as defined by UF policy

Expected Salary
$17.00 to $18.70 per hour based on experience.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid Florida driver license

EPA Refrigerant Recovery Type II certification (6‑month requirement post‑hire)

Post‑offer health assessment

Criminal background check

Preferred Qualifications

Skills

Demonstrable ability to solder refrigerant and water piping/tubing

Demonstrable ability to recover refrigerant

Abilities

Follow established safety practices and procedures

Recognize proper materials/equipment for a job and make necessary changes

Read a service request

Physical Qualifications

Drive or walk to customer/trouble locations

Move or lift up to 100 pounds with assistance

Work in attics, basements, crawl spaces, and similar places

Wear appropriate safety equipment

Climb

Reach above shoulder frequently

Kneel

Bend repeatedly

Work in confined area that may contain animals
