Description
Engineering Technician position located in Greensboro, NC. This role will collaborate with other electric utility disciplines to perform field inspections, engineering design work, and calculations. The position involves coordinating with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third‑party owners for joint‑owned poles, as well as providing engineering support during construction and conducting root‑cause analysis of outages.

Responsibilities

Travel to sites as needed for inspections and return to the office to perform engineering design work.

Perform engineering calculations and review work of other engineers, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag and tension specifications for recommended spans, voltage drop and flicker calculations.

Coordinate with permit agencies, right‑of‑way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and third‑party owners for joint‑owned poles.

Provide engineering support during construction, including post‑construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.

Conduct root‑cause analysis of outages and develop mitigation strategies using engineering principles and design.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent with 1‑2 years of relevant experience, or an AA degree in GIS, engineering technology, or a GIS certificate with 1‑2 years of experience.

Knowledge of NESC standards and client standards preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Willingness to perform field and office work; overnight travel may be required (10‑20% travel).

Ability to work in outdoor environments.

Ability to use a personal vehicle.

Pay Range
USD 40,300.00 – 72,850.00
