Board Electrical Characterization Engineer
Work location: Santa Clara, California
Background and Meet and Greet: MANDATORY
The Senior PCBA Electrical Board Characterization Engineer leads electrical characterization, validation, and debug of complex PCBAs incorporating high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and DDR memory. This role owns end-to-end electrical sign-off for boards, and acts as a technical authority for signal integrity, power integrity, and compliance readiness, working closely with design, layout, SI/PI, firmware, and system teams.
Key Responsibilities
Own electrical characterization strategy and execution for complex, multi-layer PCBAs with high-speed interfaces like PCIe, DDR
Drive root-cause analysis of high-speed failures, recommending design or layout corrective actions
Lead PDN and power integrity characterization
Evaluate power consumption and thermal interaction under functional and stress conditions
Lead board bring-up for first-silicon and early prototype boards
Debug complex electrical issues using advanced lab equipment
Partner with firmware and system teams to resolve cross-domain issues impacting electrical performance
Lead pre-compliance EMI/EMC electrical investigations, identifying root causes and mitigation strategies
Support regulatory and electrical compliance readiness, ensuring designs meet margin and robustness targets
Required Skills & Experience
Deep hands-on experience in PCBA electrical characterization and validation
Proven expertise in PCIe and DDR high-speed interface validation
Strong foundation in signal integrity and power integrity analysis
Advanced debug skills using high-speed lab instrumentation
Ability to review and interpret schematics and PCB layouts using tools such as OrCAD, Allegro, Altium, Valor
Experience defining test methodologies, automation approaches, and repeatable validation flows
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or related field
Typically 8–12+ years of experience in PCBA validation, characterization, or high-speed hardware engineering
Optional Skills
Lab environment experience and working with cross-functional teams
