Position Description
Immediately hiring a Permanent Full Time Senior Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Savannah, Georgia.
Hourly Pay: $31.00 per hour
Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained, up to $700
Quarterly Bonus: Up to $500 paid each quarter (four times per year)
Sign On Bonus: $1,750 at 30 days and $1,750 at 90 days
Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday
Hours: First Shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
Basic tools, required
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including:
Routine preventative maintenance, such as oil changes, brake and tire work
Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems
Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred
All other certifications required by location, required
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A, preferred
Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment
Knowledge and ability to use computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
Must be able to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years
Important Note:
Some positions require additional screening, including employment and education verification, motor‑vehicle records check, a road test, or customer‑specific badging or background requirements.
Responsibilities
Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:
Standard vehicle maintenance
Preventive maintenance
Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
Complete complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
Replace defective components as instructed
Work unsupervised on most tasks
Perform facility maintenance duties
Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints upon task assignment
Utilize key functions of the shop management system and electronic documentation available
Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT, MOT)
Act as a mentor for T1 and T2 levels
Access and use internal and external maintenance documents
Support operations as required, including but not limited to Service Island support
SBTIII trained within 180 days (SBT220)
Complete 2 of the OEM on‑line diagnostic scan‑tool software courses within 365 days, as required by location fleet mix
