
Diesel Technician Mechanic

Position Description
Ryder is hiring a Master Level Diesel Technician in Richmond, VA – offering weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a Technician career you can feel good about.
Hourly Pay: $35.00 per hour.
Certification Bonus of $100 for each new ASE Certification obtained, up to $700.
Quarterly Bonus: Ryder pays up to $500 per quarter.
Schedule: Monday–Friday weekdays off.
Hours: Second Shift, 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm.

Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree, or technical certifications preferred.
Basic tools required.
Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work), diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems), and advanced skilled level repairs (major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection).
Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred.
All other certifications required by location, required.
Additional Requirements
Ability to perform all T3 tasks.
Advanced analytical and repair skills in vehicle maintenance.
Effective interpersonal communication skills.
Basic computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
Can lift up to 50 pounds.
Available for shift work, weekends, and on‑call duty.
ASE certifications in PM, brakes, A/C, electrical, electronics or Master Mechanic preferred.
Proficient operation of shop computers and diagnostic test equipment.
Minimum tool requirement met.
Road test of vehicles as necessary.
Ability to coach, mentor, and influence others.
Must obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire.
Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and Ryder background and motor‑vehicle check.
Responsibilities
Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT220).
Complete all OEM online diagnostic scan tool software courses required by location fleet mix within 365 days.
Complete instructor‑led OEM courses as required.
Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including standard maintenance, preventive maintenance, and complex repairs with minimal support.
Access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems with minimal support, utilizing diagnostic computers and software.
Perform remote triage with RCRC and customers to determine the best solution for roadside breakdowns.
Perform facility maintenance duties.
Interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints once assigned a task.
Instruct and advise other technicians on maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics.
Coach and mentor other level technicians.
Advise shop management and other technicians on shop repairs.
Utilize key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation.
Work in accordance with all federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT).
Perform other support duties as required to support operations, including Service Island support.
