College Intern (Human Resources)

The Sac Metro Air District is hiring a college intern to work in Human Resources. This internship will allow a college student to gain real‑world HR experience while making a tangible impact. The intern will work closely with a small, supportive HR team at a mid‑sized public agency (approximately 100 employees), gaining direct exposure to day‑to‑day Human Resources operations.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting activities.

Perform essential administrative work.

Collaborate on meaningful projects such as updating job descriptions and modernizing promotional criteria.

Assist with research to update the employee handbook.

Qualifications

Be actively enrolled in a community college or university for the duration of the internship (post‑graduation work may be considered).

Be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree with demonstrated interest in Human Resources.

Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Have strong proficiency with computer software applications, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.

Demonstrate excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and critical thinking ability.

Have the capacity and discipline to work independently and maintain confidentiality.

Summer & School Break Schedule
Work hours are flexible and will be based on the intern's availability and interest. Typically, interns can work between 20 and 40 hours per week, depending on project needs, with hours varying as workload changes.

School Year Schedule
Work hours are flexible and will be arranged around the intern's class schedule – school is the priority. Interns typically work 8–12 hours per week, with some variation depending on workload and availability.

Flexible/Hybrid Work Model
The HR Department operates Monday through Friday in a hybrid environment. If scheduled to work, team members are required to be on‑site on Tuesdays, the Division’s designated in‑office day, and may be scheduled for additional in‑office days as needed. Remote work is available for the remainder of the week. Interns are also required to work on‑site for the District’s monthly All‑Hands Day if it falls on a scheduled workday; this may occur on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday and may replace the Division’s regular in‑office day for that week.

Hours per Fiscal Year
Not to exceed 960.

Interview & Duration
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, May 12 with the internship expected to start within a week or two, depending on the successful candidate's availability.

Estimated Duration of Internship: up to one year (to June 2027).

Pay

Undergraduate Intern: $19.53/hour*

Graduate Intern: $21.25/hour*

*NOTE: If approved by the Board of Directors, the hourly rate of pay will be adjusted by a 2.9% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) effective the pay period containing July 1, 2026.
