Litigation Paralegal: Criminal, Civil Rights & Appellate Focus
Position Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and mission‑aligned Paralegal, with interest in Fact Investigations & Case Analyses to support our criminal defense, civil rights, and appellate practice. This hybrid role blends document analysis, investigative research, and litigation support – with a significant focus on obtaining, organizing, and reviewing police reports, body‑worn camera footage, and other discovery.
We especially welcome candidates with law enforcement or investigative backgrounds who are interested in applying their skills toward truth‑seeking, justice, and systemic accountability.
Transcript Review & Summary (20–25%)
Read and analyze depositions, reports, and trial transcripts
Flag critical testimony, evidentiary issues, and inconsistencies
Create structured summaries, issue indexes, and cross‑referenced excerpts
Collaborate with attorneys on factual development of legal claims
Document Analysis & Organization (Discovery)
Organize discovery, public records, and exhibits by witness, issue, or chronology
Review case materials to detect missing discovery or contradictions
Develop timelines and internal memos to support litigation
Follow up with clients on pending and outstanding discovery
Investigative Research & Public Records
Request and track FOIA/public records and agency‑level data
Investigate witness backgrounds and historical or institutional misconduct
Build factual narratives and assist in timeline/event reconstruction
Case Support & Tracking
Maintain logs of documents, requests, and deadlines
Support preparation of trial binders, exhibits, and appellate records
Track outstanding subpoenas, filings, and key responses
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Strong summarization and analytical skills
Comfort reading long legal documents (transcripts, depositions, etc.)
High attention to detail and ability to spot gaps or inconsistencies
Interest in criminal law, civil rights, and justice reform
Basic comfort with spreadsheets or document management software
Type of Backgrounds:
Paralegal/legal assistant experience (especially in defense or civil rights)
Journalism, public policy, or document‑heavy research work
Familiarity with FOIA or government records
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Law enforcement or criminal investigation
