Controller
Scope of Role
This is a full-time, salaried, year-round, Exempt, in-person position responsible for providing support for assigned accounting functions for Cape Fear Academy. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the supervision of the Accounts Receivable Accounting Specialist, the Accounts Payable Accounting Specialist, and the Payroll and Finance Specialist.
Major Responsibilities
General Ledger Management – Responsible for the maintaining of the General Ledger and all associated modules, process monthly journal entries, process monthly bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations, fixed assets, and budget management. Provide financial support and financial reports for campus events and other departments. Reconciliation of school credit cards.
Contract and tuition charge issuance - Responsible for the annual preparation of enrollment contracts and posting tuition charges for the upcoming school year.
Payroll – Responsible for maintaining payroll records and leave reports and preparing all necessary reports associated with payroll.
Audit – Responsible for assisting with the annual audit including all required reconciliations and reports.
Document Management – Responsible for maintaining the off campus storage.
Financial Aid – Responsible for updating Financial Aid reports with information provided by FACTS.
Supervision of Accounts Receivable Accounting Specialist, Accounts Payable Accounting Specialist and the Payroll and Accounting Specialist.
Preparation and input of all survey reporting data to external agencies.
Take minutes at finance, insurance, facilities, and investment committee meetings.
Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent communication, mathematical skills and organization skills; ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and meet multiple deadlines on a regular basis.
Experience in processing payroll and familiar with online payroll systems.
Experience with bank and general ledger account reconciliations with online software systems.
Excellent customer service and public relations skills.
Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
Education
Bachelor’s degree is required, CPA license preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 5 years of accounting and payroll experience required. Proficient in use of accounting and payroll software systems.
Equivalency
Directly related experience or a combination of directly related education and experience may be considered in place of the above requirements.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment
Frequent use of the computer, phone, and copier and other essential office equipment.
Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for the majority of a workday.
Occasional travel required for seminars, conferences, and other training.
Ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and objective manner.
