Revenue Cycle Specialist – Revenue Integrity

Location: New York, NY (Midtown) • Remote

Pay range: $29.15-$35.00 per hour (NYC office)

Position Summary
Remote position within the Central Business Office of Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM). Apply your expertise as a Certified Professional Coder to investigate and resolve coding‑related insurance payment denials. The team partners with WCM clinical departments to drive efficiencies, reduce aged accounts receivable, and identify root causes of denials.

Job Responsibilities

Performs retrospective coding and documentation review of denied charges for physician services, ensuring documentation supports the billed services.

Analyzes denial trends, payer‑specific carrier requirements, and system optimizations.

Conducts extensive follow‑up to investigate and resolve payment denial trends.

Resolves outstanding accounts using ancillary applications and websites to retrieve documentation, claim status, and billing guidelines to substantiate corrected claim submissions and appeals.

Researches and interprets payer contract terms and compiles templates for appeals according to payer guidelines.

Ensures denial reviews are completed in a timely manner.

Maintains up‑to‑date policies and procedures relating to managed care and third‑party payors.

Participates in mandatory compliance training and fulfills Continuing Education Units to maintain certification.

Assists in training current and new employees on system use and departmental procedures.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or GED in a related field.

Experience

Certified as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from AHIMA or AAPC.

3–5 years of physician billing experience, with a focus on accounts receivable and collections.

Experience with eMR systems.

Knowledge of medical terminology and third‑party reimbursement.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and reporting software for trend analysis.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in CPT and ICD‑10‑CM coding guidelines.

Ability to meet productivity and quality standards, identify trends, and report issues.

Independent judgment and critical thinking skills.

Strong computer skills in data entry, coding, and electronic medical record (Epic) use.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Ability to adhere to coding guidelines and legal requirements for compliance.

Licenses & Certifications

CPC or CCS certification.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands
Remote work with occasional onsite visits; dedicated workspace required.
