Position Overview
You will lead survey teams on projects ranging from $50M to $1Billion, ensuring accuracy and tight tolerances. Survey leaders maintain safe, accurate, and efficient surveying operations on heavy civil infrastructure projects.
District Overview
Kiewit’s Central District operates in the central and south-central regions of the United States, building highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams, and tunnels. The district maintains a large equipment fleet and performs self‑perform construction activities.
Location
Survey teams may be assigned to projects in CO, MT, WY, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA, TN, KY, and MN. The role requires willingness to travel to project sites and periodic visits to the district office in Lone Tree, Colorado. Travel to projects is supported with per diem and home‑trip expenses.
Responsibilities
Oversee all surveying operations for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to specifications.
Develop and implement surveying plans, methodologies, and best practices to optimize field data collection and layout.
Lead and mentor a team of surveyors and field personnel.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to align design intent and field execution.
Utilize advanced surveying technologies (GPS, total stations, LiDAR, drones) to collect and analyze data.
Conduct quality control checks to verify survey accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements.
Manage survey data processing, integrating with project management and BIM software.
Prepare and maintain detailed survey reports, logs, and documentation.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and company standards.
Maintain safety standards and regulatory compliance in all surveying activities.
Troubleshoot and resolve on‑site survey-related challenges.
Use Trimble Business Center and CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation) for calculations and elevation keying.
Communicate effectively with superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred; Professional Land Surveyor certification is an asset (certification assistance provided).
7+ years of field construction surveying experience, including leadership of survey crews; experience in heavy civil (highway, bridge), power, water, or tunneling projects.
Proficiency with Trimble Access/Business Center; expertise with GPS, total stations, LiDAR, and drone data collection.
Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry for calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage).
Survey Manager candidates must have prior Survey Manager experience and advanced CAD skills (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation), GIS proficiency, and MS Office Suite capability.
Dynamic, self‑starter who sets standards of excellence in safety, quality, and productivity.
Excellent written and verbal communication; strong stakeholder engagement.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
Comfortable working outdoors in varied terrain and weather conditions.
Willingly travel to projects; per diem and home‑trip support provided.
Physical ability to lift equipment and perform manual tasks; strong work ethic and commitment to safety.

Base Compensation: $90,000 – $135,000
