Position Overview
Kiewit is a highly regarded General Contractor executing self‑performed projects all over the US. We have a large backlog of work and are seeking highly skilled and motivated Sr. Crew Chiefs and Survey Managers to add to our team in 2026, to lead field survey operations for heavy civil infrastructure (highway/bridge), and power/Water/Wastewater projects around the US. You will play an integral role in leading survey teams on projects that range from $50M to $1Billion, working within tight tolerances and ensuring accuracy in the field. Our Survey leaders are essential to our self‑perform construction and play an integral role in establishing and maintaining methods for a safe, accurate and efficient survey and control on our projects.
District Overview
Kiewit's Central District operates in the central and south‑central regions of the United States. We build heavy civil and transportation projects, including highways, airports, mass transit systems, canals, dams and tunnels. With one of the largest equipment fleets in the region, we can mobilize to any location as a full‑service construction team capable of self‑performing mass grading, drainage, bridge construction, aggregate production, paving, rail and utility construction.
Location
Our Survey Teams go where the work is! As a Survey Manager or Crew Chief, you could be assigned to projects across the regions we support, which could include assignments to any of these states: CO, MT, WY, NM, ND, SD, NE, KS, MO, IA, TN, KY and MN. In this role, you must be willing to travel to project sites as needed and visit our district office in Lone Tree, Colorado occasionally for training and meetings. When assigned to a project site, we provide per diem and pay for trips home.
Responsibilities
Oversee all surveying operations for the construction of assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications.
Develop and implement surveying plans, methodologies, and best practices to optimize field data collection and layout. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop survey plans and schedules.
Lead a team of surveyors and field personnel, providing training, mentorship, and technical guidance.
Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure alignment between design intent and field execution.
Skilled in the utilization of advanced surveying technology, including GPS, total stations, LiDAR, and drones, to capture and analyze data.
Conduct quality control checks to verify survey accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements.
Manage survey data processing, ensuring integration with project management and BIM software.
Prepare and maintain detailed survey reports, logs, and documentation for project records.
Ensure all survey activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and standards.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in all surveying activities.
Troubleshoot and resolve survey‑related challenges on‑site, adapting to changing project conditions.
Skilled with Trimble Business Center and with CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or Microstation) with the ability to use CAD to do calculations, key in elevations from a plan and drawings.
Communicate effectively with superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree is preferred. Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) Certification is an asset. (We assist with certification if you do not have it).
7+ years of field construction survey experience, and leadership of Survey Crews, performing dimensional control, industrial measurements, conducting field surveys. Prefer experience with heavy civil highway, bridge construction, power plants, water, tunneling.
Proficiency with Trimble Access/Business Center is required.
Proficiency with Survey equipment, such as GPS, total stations, and LiDAR, and data collection tools (drones).
Must be able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to perform calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage).
For candidates interested in Survey Manager role – must have prior experience as a Survey Manager in Construction Survey and have advanced Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, or Civil 3D or Microstation) and GIS platforms is required. Proficient with MS Office Suite.
Dynamic thinker with the desire to lead, motivate, mentor and manage performance of your teams. Must be a self‑starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in safety, quality and productivity.
Excellent written/verbal skills; strong self‑awareness, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels, and solve problems effectively.
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
Accustomed to outdoor fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions.
Willing to travel as necessary to projects. We provide per diem and trips home, when long durations.
Physical ability to lift equipment and perform manual tasks; strong work ethic, and committed to safety and getting the work done right the first time.

Compensation:
$90,000 - $135,000
