Job Overview
Kiewit is a highly regarded General Contractor executing self‑performed projects all over the US. We have a large backlog of work and are seeking highly skilled and motivated Sr. Crew Chiefs and Survey Managers to lead field survey operations for heavy civil infrastructure (highway/bridge) and power/Water/Wastewater projects across the country. These roles require strong technical expertise in construction surveying, team leadership, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with engineering and construction teams to ensure precision and efficiency.

Location
Project assignments may be in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Minnesota. Travel to project sites and occasional visits to the district office in Lone Tree, Colorado are required.

Responsibilities

Oversee all surveying operations for assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to specifications.

Develop and implement survey plans, methodologies, and best practices to optimize field data collection and layout. Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to develop survey plans and schedules.

Lead a team of surveyors and field personnel, providing training, mentorship, and technical guidance.

Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to align design intent with field execution.

Utilize advanced surveying technology, including GPS, total stations, LiDAR, and drones, to capture and analyze data.

Conduct quality control checks to verify survey accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements.

Manage survey data processing and ensure integration with project management and BIM software.

Prepare and maintain detailed survey reports, logs, and documentation for project records.

Ensure all survey activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and standards.

Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements in all surveying activities.

Troubleshoot and resolve survey‑related challenges on‑site, adapting to changing project conditions.

Use Trimble Business Center, and CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation) for calculations, keying in elevations from plans and drawings.

Communicate effectively with superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred; Professional Land Surveyor certification is an asset (certification assistance provided).

7+ years of field construction survey experience and leadership of survey crews, including dimensional control, industrial measurements, and field surveys. Preference for heavy civil highway, bridge, power plant, water, and tunneling experience.

Proficiency with Trimble Access/Business Center required.

Proficiency with survey equipment such as GPS, total stations, LiDAR, and drones.

Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts in calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage).

For Survey Manager candidates: prior Survey Manager experience, advanced CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation) and GIS platform proficiency, and MS Office Suite.

Dynamic thinker with a desire to lead, motivate, mentor, and manage team performance; self‑starter, setting standards of excellence in safety, quality, and productivity.

Excellent written and verbal skills; strong stakeholder engagement and problem‑solving abilities.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.

Comfortable with outdoor fieldwork in varied terrain and weather; willing to travel to projects.

Physical capability to lift equipment and perform manual tasks; strong work ethic and commitment to safety.

Base Compensation
$90,000 – $135,000 (subject to variation based on education, experience, skill set, and/or location).
