The Senior Accountant & Financial Analyst will manage core accounting functions while leading financial analysis efforts to support strategic decision-making in a collaborative, fast-paced non-profit environment.

Essential Functions and Day‑to‑Day Work
Accounting (50%)
Record and reconcile general ledger transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll entries, and journal entries.
Perform monthly and annual closings; prepare supporting schedules for audits and governmental reporting.
Ensure compliance with GAAP and fund accounting requirements.
Maintain accurate grant and restricted fund tracking.
Assist with internal controls and audit readiness.
Financial Analysis (50%)
Develop and maintain financial models for annual budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
Analyze financial results vs. budget, investigate variances, and provide actionable insights.
Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports and dashboards for all departments.
Prepare financial reports and dashboards for CFO and Controller to present at board meetings.
Support grant proposals and renewals with budgeting, forecasting, and financial narratives.
Recommend process improvements to enhance financial reporting and analysis.

Work Environment and Physical & Mental Demands
The Minnesota Orchestra is primarily a place‑based organization, offering hybrid schedules that require some in‑person, on‑site work. Permission is required for applicants and current employees seeking to reside outside the Twin Cities metropolitan area or more than 60 miles from Orchestra Hall. Work is performed in an open office environment or at performing arts locations.
Sit or stand at a desk, counter, or other work surface.
Talk and/or hear spoken words, music, or other sounds.
Use hands or fingers to handle or touch objects.
Review documents, monitors, or displays with potentially small print.
Operate a computer, phone and other common office tools or controls.
Mental focus on tasks and apply sound reasoning and judgement.
Attend meetings or events in any of the Orchestra locations or other sites.
Lift/move objects weighing up to 15 lbs.
Typical workdays are Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with possibility of extended evening, weekend or holiday hours. The exempt position requires flexible attendance to meet deadlines and quality standards.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA or progress toward it is a plus.
5+ years of progressive accounting and/or financial analysis experience, preferably in a non‑profit environment.
Strong knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
Excellent communication skills, with ability to translate complex financial information to non‑financial stakeholders.
Technology/Equipment
Advanced Excel skills. Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) a plus.
Experience with accounting/ERP software preferred.
