From the above comprehensive description, the essential responsibilities of the Equipment Dispatcher are to act as the primary point of contact for the City’s fleet and equipment network. In general supervision, the dispatcher receives and transmits radio and telephone communications and promptly dispatches appropriate equipment and personnel in response to vehicle and equipment breakdowns, service requests, and emergency situations.
The dispatcher works a shift at the central Dispatch Center, where they manage all inbound calls from drivers and other city departments, log details into the dispatch tracking system (E-Trakker), coordinate dispatch of service trucks, tires, and tow trucks, and maintain real‑time situational awareness through the city’s GPS/CMAT system. They also provide incident reports, register vehicle status changes, monitor equipment movements, and maintain manual logs and reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assign shift at the central Dispatch Center, receiving calls from truck drivers and other city departments (Police, Fire, etc.).
Receive calls via telephone or two‑way radios from drivers reporting downed vehicles, accidents, or incidents affecting vehicle operability.
Obtain all relevant information (nature of breakdown, location) and enter it into E‑Trakker to track and monitor downed/inactive vehicles.
Dispatch service trucks, tire repair trucks, or tow trucks in response to field calls or requests to move downed vehicles to service garages for repairs.
Communicate with vendor repair shops and department service garages regarding downed and repaired vehicles, entering data into E‑Trakker to track vehicle movement.
Maintain constant contact with service trucks via the city’s GPS/CMAT system to monitor location and status.
Follow established protocols and notify the appropriate personnel and managers of vehicle accidents, escalated fire alarms, activated snow program events, and other incidents or emergencies.
Access information on E‑Trakker to provide reports on active and spare vehicles available for various operations (snow, refuse collection, other departmental operations).
Maintain manual logs, complete forms, and prepare reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of work experience operating automotive equipment as a Motor Truck Driver OR two years of work experience operating radio and communications equipment in a communications or dispatch environment.
No licensure or certification required.
Working Conditions
– General office environment.

– Standard office equipment, computers, and communication equipment (telephone, two‑way radio, dispatch equipment, multi‑channel system).
Physical Requirements
– Ability to operate a personal computer and related equipment.
Selection Requirements: Candidates must pass a job knowledge exam; results will determine hiring order for internal and external candidates.
Employment verification is required upon hire. International credentials must be accompanied by a foreign credential evaluation.

Location: 210 W 69th Street
Days: Five (5) days per week, days off will vary.
