Senior Technical Coordinator – Electronics and/or Mechanical Fabrication
Job Description
The Senior Technical Coordinator will support the Supply Chain Organization within the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science Directorate. The role involves applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials to work with NIF engineers and suppliers on the procurement and acquisition of parts, mechanical and/or electrical components, and electro‑optical/mechanical assemblies for scientific research.
Responsibilities
Provide advanced procurement/coordination support to scientific, engineering, and technical personnel.
Participate in or lead project teams to provide acquisition support on medium to large projects.
Provide solutions to complex technical problems and make decisions using established guidelines and procedures.
Research and recommend substitute products with similar specifications.
Collaborate with suppliers, requestors, LLNL Procurement, production control, NIF warehouse, LLNL Receiving, and onsite fabrication shops to meet project cost and schedule requirements.
Provide detailed award/delivery status to supervisor and customers, anticipating and reconciling supply issues.
Stage, transport, and deliver parts across the LLNL site and from local suppliers.
Initiate purchasing requisitions and manage contracts, including use of LLNL‑issued credit cards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance required; U.S. citizenship.
Associate degree in mechanical/electronic technology or equivalent education/experience.
Advanced knowledge of ANSI International Electronic Standards or ASME Y14.5M Dimensioning and Tolerancing and ability to interpret BOMs.
Experience with the fabrication acquisition process: approvals, bidding, award, inspection, acceptance, receipt, reconciliation, and close‑out.
Strong written, verbal, feedback and presentation skills.
Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and multitasking skills, with ability to manage multiple assignments in a fast‑paced environment.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to safely operate pick‑up trucks, lift up to 25 lbs, and secure loads.
Ability to travel and work flexible hours for training.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in electronic procurement or as an electronic technician, including shop process skills.
Experience in mechanical fabrication procurement or as a machinist, sheet metal worker, or equivalent shop experience.
Pay Range
$52.23 – $63.97 per hour.
