Position Overview

This role is essential for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized healthcare environment in a regional medical facility located in the Pacific Northwest. The Environmental Services Support Aide is responsible for the collection and disposal of medical solid waste and trash, as well as the distribution and collection of linens and floor care maintenance. This position also includes housekeeping and janitorial duties across patient care areas, administrative offices, and public spaces.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure a safe and sanitary work environment, adhering to unit-based safety and infection control protocols.
Safely move heavy equipment, bins, and receptacles as required.
Collect biohazardous waste and trash, disposing of them in designated receptacles.
Distribute and collect linens throughout the facility.
Maintain and clean floors according to established schedules and standards.
Relocate patient beds, furniture, boxes, desks, supplies, and other equipment as assigned.
Clean and maintain assigned areas, ensuring compliance with safety standards including the use of wet floor signs.
Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and follow proper hand hygiene practices.
Understand and fulfill responsibilities during emergency or disaster situations.
Clean discharge and occupied rooms following departmental training checklists.
Provide courteous and professional customer service at all times.
Maintain compliance with all hospital requirements such as annual TB testing, fit testing, and ongoing training.
Qualifications

Ability to push and pull a minimum of 750 lbs. and lift at least 75 lbs.
Knowledge of proper floor care, trash collection, linen handling, and safe lifting techniques.
Experience handling cleaning chemicals and solutions safely.
Completion of on-the-job training related to cleaning equipment operation and health and sanitation standards.
Minimum of one year of housekeeping or janitorial experience preferred.
Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and labels in English.
Effective communication skills with supervisors, healthcare staff, and environmental services team members.
For surgical services areas: experience with stripping, waxing, buffing floors, and knowledge of cleaning agents and equipment used in operating rooms, following AORN and healthcare environmental cleaning guidelines.
Education

High school diploma or GED preferred.
Licenses

Valid driver's license required for evening shift positions within six months of hire or transfer.
All candidates must successfully pass a physical evaluation, drug screening, and background checks prior to employment. Compliance with regional COVID-19 vaccination mandates is required.
